Tragedy struck the Funbi Fagun area of Ondo West Local Government Area as a 27-year-old woman, Faith Olusesan, was brutally macheted to death in her sister’s residence.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, when an unspecified number of assailants armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons reportedly invaded the home of a serving police officer, DSP Helen Adetowubo, and attacked the victim.

Faith was said to have been attacked shortly after returning from the market, where she had gone to purchase food items for the household.

According to the Ondo State government-owned Hope Newspaper, the assailants allegedly gained access to the compound by scaling an unsecured section of the barbed-wire fence. They reportedly assaulted the victim repeatedly, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death.

The publication further reported that DSP Adetowubo disclosed that her nephew’s friend—whose identity could not be confirmed—had sent her a text message about an hour before the incident, warning that Faith’s life was in danger.

Upon returning home, family members reportedly found Faith’s lifeless body lying on the floor.

DSP Adetowubo also revealed that the deceased had been making preparations to travel abroad in the coming weeks in search of better opportunities.

Preliminary investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, Funbi Fagun Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Adenibuyan Olanrewaju, indicated that the assailants may have been inside the house waiting for the victim to return. It was also discovered that a window leading to the parlour had been burgled, allegedly in search of the victim or valuables.

The exact circumstances surrounding the attack remained unclear at the time of filing this report.
