Adefowora Abiodun, one of the suspected promoters of the cryptocurrency trading platform Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Abiodun, accompanied by his legal representatives, reported to the EFCC headquarters at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, expressing his willingness to cooperate fully with investigators.
The EFCC had declared Abiodun and seven others wanted last week in connection with an alleged $1 billion fraudulent investment scheme. Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier granted the EFCC’s application for the arrest and detention of the suspects pending the conclusion of investigations and potential prosecution.
In granting the application, Justice Nwite stated:
“I have listened to the submission of learned counsel for the applicant (EFCC). I have also gone through the affidavit evidence and exhibits, along with the written address. I am satisfied that the application is meritorious and hereby grant it as prayed.”
Speaking on behalf of his client, Abiodun’s counsel, Babatunde Busari, Esq., said his client chose to turn himself in to demonstrate his readiness to clear his name and address the ongoing media narrative.
