Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were present at the PDP’s national caucus meeting held in Abuja this evening, April 17.
This gathering precedes the party’s upcoming National Executive Committee meeting, slated for Thursday, April 18. Notably, it marks the first time the former Rivers state governor has attended a PDP meeting since the presidential election last year. Wike’s absence from party affairs stemmed from his divergence with the PDP leadership, particularly regarding support for Atiku during the 2023 presidential election.
Beyond his discord with Atiku’s campaign, Wike’s decision to serve in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet exacerbated tensions with key stakeholders in the party.
- Critical decisions concerning the party’s leadership and other pertinent matters, including Wike’s involvement, will be deliberated upon at the NEC meeting scheduled for today.
