FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to comments by APC governors who rejected his proposed “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, a member of the PDP with strong ties to the APC, had formed what he described as a “Rainbow Coalition” in Rivers State, involving members of both parties working together in the interest of the APC and PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development came after APC governors, led by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, met behind closed doors in Abuja on Monday, September 14.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Uzodinma said the governors would not support any political arrangement capable of weakening the electoral chances of APC candidates across the states.
Reacting during an interview with Arise TV, Wike described the APC governors as being “smart but politically lazy.”
He questioned their political relevance and singled out Uzodinma, arguing that the Imo State governor, despite being in office, failed to deliver the state to President Bola Tinubu and the APC during the 2023 presidential election.
Wike further alleged that the APC governors began having issues with him after President Tinubu appointed him as a minister.
