Woman arrested for defrauding job seekers.

Maria Wangare Kamunge, also known as Rish Kamunge, has been charged in connection with a job scam that targeted Kenyans seeking employment in Mauritius.

In a statement on Friday, March 28, 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that victims had paid between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 for job placements, only to discover that the promised opportunities were non-existent.

Some individuals even traveled to Mauritius, only to be left stranded at the airport with no assistance, eventually being deported back to Kenya.

Investigations have uncovered that 43 victims sent a total of Sh12.9 million to the suspect.

Kamunge, who is the Director of Trustpine Travel Agency, appeared in court for custodial orders and was remanded at Capital Hill Police Station. The case is scheduled for mention today, March 28, 2025.

The DCI has urged anyone who may have fallen victim to this job scam to come forward and report the incident at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.
