President Bola Tinubu has confirmed the rescue of 21 people, including 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six other victims, who were abducted last week in Kogi State.
The victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued on Monday from the forests of Ofu Local Government Area during a coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operation involving the military, Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.
Tinubu said the rescued victims were receiving medical attention and would be reunited with their families after their recovery.
The President described the operation as a well-coordinated effort and commended the security personnel and local vigilantes involved for successfully securing the release of all 21 abductees.
He, however, disclosed that security forces were still pursuing the kidnappers, directing the relevant agencies to sustain pressure on criminal elements involved in the abduction.
Tinubu said those responsible for the crime, as well as anyone who aided the operation, would face the full weight of the law.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians can travel across the country without fear, stressing that the safety of NYSC members and other citizens remains a priority.
He commended the combined SAR team for their courage and thanked the families and loved ones of the victims for their patience and understanding throughout the ordeal.
