A man has been banished from Ohatekwe Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State for allegedly killing his mother.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Damian Oforbuike, reportedly attacked his mother, Onyemaechi, with a machete over the weekend before fleeing into a nearby forest.

Community youths later tracked him down to his hideout in the forest, where he was apprehended. He was subsequently paraded around the community and banished, with a strict warning never to return.

In a viral video recorded during the parade, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. He claimed that his actions were triggered by his mother’s refusal to bathe him and her unwillingness to provide money to set up a barbing salon for his brother, who had completed his apprenticeship.

“I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother who learned barbing and needed money to start,” he said.

The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the incident, stating that he mobilised more than 200 youths who searched the forest and arrested the suspect.

The remains of the deceased have since been deposited in a morgue.
