A 20-year-old former fighter affiliated with the JAS terrorist group has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State.
The fighter, identified as Kurso Muhammed, reportedly surrendered at about 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, to troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade at New Abaram Resettlement Village.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the development followed sustained intelligence-driven operations by the military in the area.
Muhammed is currently in military custody, where he is undergoing screening and further processing in line with established procedures.
His surrender comes amid continued reports of terrorist elements abandoning their hideouts and enclaves in the North-East as military operations intensify and internal challenges persist among terrorist factions operating in the region.
The Joint Task Force said the overall security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troops continue to maintain high morale and operational effectiveness.
