The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly executed a senior member of its Shura Council, Yaa Saleh, after accusing him of repeatedly disobeying directives from the group’s Wali, Baa Shuwa.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Yaa Saleh served as ISWAP’s Zakkah Amir and oversaw areas around the Gudumbali, Kareto and Gubio axis. He was reportedly an indigene of Banki.

Makama said the senior commander was accused of repeatedly disregarding orders from Baa Shuwa, with the dispute reportedly escalating amid the deaths of three other prominent ISWAP fighters in the area.

The reported execution is said to have occurred as Baa Shuwa intensified efforts to consolidate his authority over ISWAP’s command structure in the Lake Chad region.

Meanwhile, the group has reportedly carried out a leadership reshuffle involving Yaku Abu Adam, described as its most senior Buduma commander. He was allegedly moved to a senior Jaish position, effectively making him a deputy within ISWAP’s operational structure.

His former deputy, Abubakar Bashihuba, reportedly assumed responsibility for Buduma-dominated enclaves, while Yaku’s chief bodyguard, Mal Haruna, was appointed to a senior command role under Bashihuba.

According to Makama, security sources believe the changes could be linked to concerns over Yaku’s reported vulnerability to defection or surrender. The reshuffle may have been designed to retain the influential commander within ISWAP’s leadership structure, the sources reportedly assessed.
