The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned 20-year-old labourer Godpower Emeka before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing a teenage boy to death following a minor disagreement.
Emeka, whose residential address was not disclosed in court, was charged with conspiracy and murder.
The prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, told the court that the incident occurred on December 26, 2025, around 3:00 p.m. in Ore, Ondo State. According to the prosecution, Emeka allegedly stabbed 19-year-old Obinna Edwin in the neck with a broken bottle of Captain Jack Dry Gin, resulting in the teenager’s death.
Omhenemhen said the alleged offence contravened Sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006, which prescribe the death penalty for offenders.
The defendant’s plea was not taken. The prosecutor requested that Emeka be remanded in an appropriate correctional facility pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Emeka’s counsel, T.A. Dada, asked the court to adjourn the matter to enable him to file a counter-affidavit in response to the prosecution’s application for remand.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered that Emeka be remanded in police custody pending the determination of the remand application.
The case was adjourned to February 4, 2026, for hearing and possible ruling.
