The Ogunmakin town’s Olu palace, located in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State and presided over by the late Oba James Sodiya, fell victim to a break-in by robbers. This audacious theft resulted in the pilfering of both the royal crown and the staff of office.
The late monarch, who passed away approximately two months ago, saw his palace invaded by these criminals on Thursday, October 12. The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, has verified the incident, indicating that three individuals have been apprehended in connection with this offense.
Odutola stated, “On the 12th of October 2023, we received intelligence from the palace of the late Ogunmakin monarch, his Royal Majesty, that Amusa Kazeem, Oke Oladipupo, and Johnson Oluwole conspired to purloin the royal crown and staff of office. This heinous act occurred two months after the demise of the Ogunmakin king.”
“The suspects reportedly gained access to the house at around 2:00 AM, where the late king’s belongings were safeguarded. The trio seized the key entrusted to the custodian of these items and removed the royal crown and staff of office, an act deemed sacrilegious.”
“Upon receiving this information, the police promptly initiated an operation and successfully retrieved the royal crown from the residence of Kazeem Amusan. As for the staff of office, it remains unrecovered at this time, but our diligent efforts are ongoing to retrieve it. The suspects have been apprehended and are currently undergoing interrogation.”
