Today, on November 8, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele was granted bail by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
During the bail hearing, the judge ordered Emefiele’s immediate release into the custody of his legal representatives. Furthermore, the judge instructed the lawyers to ensure Emefiele’s presence in court for his arraignment, either next week or whenever he is required to appear.
Justice Adeniyi mandated that Emefiele must surrender his travel documents to the court’s chief registrar until his arraignment.
The judge expressed disapproval of Emefiele’s detention without a trial, emphasizing that he had been in detention for 151 days. He also emphasized the importance of the Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation complying with the court’s orders.
The substantive motion on notice and the preliminary objection have been adjourned to November 17, 2023, for a hearing.
