Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has alleged that rising insecurity in parts of the country is being deliberately orchestrated by political opponents to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The governor made the claim while flagging off the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the forthcoming local government council elections in Edo South Senatorial District.
According to Okpebholo, recent security challenges are part of efforts by opposition elements to tarnish the President’s image and distract his government from its developmental agenda.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” the governor declared, insisting that acts of violence and kidnapping would not help anyone secure political office.
“They can even kidnap all of us, but there is still no vacancy in Aso Rock,” he said. “What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Is it by kidnapping children that they want to achieve power? If there are no people left, who will they govern?”
Okpebholo urged those behind the violence to allow peace to prevail so governments at all levels can focus on delivering development and good governance to citizens.
The governor also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a reformer who has done more for the country than many of his predecessors.
He pointed to infrastructure and development projects across Edo State as evidence of the benefits arising from the removal of fuel subsidy, saying residents are already feeling the impact of the policy.
Okpebholo further congratulated APC candidates who emerged from the party’s primary elections ahead of the local government polls, expressing confidence that their success would strengthen the party’s position and help deliver the 2.5 million votes pledged to President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The governor reiterated the party’s commitment to expanding its support base across the state and ensuring victory in future elections.
