The Abia State government has invalidated the results of Preliminary Test Sessions (PTS) conducted in nursing schools owned by the state. The cancellation was disclosed by Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, during a press briefing at the government house in Umuahia following the State Executive Council meeting. Kanu assured that a new date for the PTS examinations would be scheduled, and students would not be required to pay additional fees for the re-taking of the exams.
Furthermore, Kanu stated that investigations into the matter were ongoing. The committee responsible for the investigation had engaged with the aggrieved students, officials connected to the petitions, and had gathered complaints from all parties involved.
The controversy arose two weeks prior when nursing students in Umuahia protested, urging the annulment of their PTS exam results. They claimed that the released results were significantly manipulated and compromised. Some students even called for the removal of Mrs. Onyeukwu Nwakaego, the Abia State Director of Nursing Service. In response, Governor Alex Otti established a committee to thoroughly investigate the allegations. He urged the complainants to submit evidence to the State government, promising that anyone found guilty would face appropriate consequences.
