Veteran Nollywood actor and lawyer Kanayo O. Kanayo has urged the Nigeria Police Force to intensify its ongoing reforms, citing differences in policing practices he observed during a recent trip to Ghana.

In a video shared online, the actor disclosed that he and his colleagues spent 10 days filming in Ghana without encountering a single police checkpoint during their travels, including journeys between Takoradi and other locations.

According to Kanayo, police officers were visible on Ghanaian roads but appeared to carry out their duties strategically rather than relying on frequent checkpoints to stop motorists.

While commending the Inspector-General of Police for efforts to reform the force, the actor called for greater attention to officers whose conduct undermines public confidence in the police.

He also alleged that some dismissed or retired officers had found their way back into the force, urging the authorities to identify and remove such individuals.

Kanayo further criticised the alleged practice of profiling young Nigerians who drive expensive cars as suspected internet fraudsters. He noted that many young people earn legitimate incomes through technology, entrepreneurship and other lawful businesses.

Speaking from his experience as a lawyer, he acknowledged that police officers have the legal authority to conduct searches but questioned the justification for stopping motorists without reasonable grounds.

The actor called on police authorities to reduce the number of checkpoints across the country, warning that unnecessary stops and prolonged questioning could create negative experiences for tourists and other road users.

Kanayo, however, condemned criminal activities and praised police officers who remain committed to protecting lives and property, stressing the need for professional conduct and improved public trust in the force.
