The Women’s Team of the Year at the CAF 2023 Awards has been secured by the Super Falcons of Nigeria, recognizing their remarkable performance at the World Cup earlier in the year.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons were one of the three African nations that achieved a historic feat by reaching the FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 in the previous global showcase, alongside Morocco and South Africa. They faced Olympic champions Canada, co-hosts Australia, and the Republic of Ireland, securing a point against the latter.
In the group stage, the Nigerian team displayed an unbeaten record across three matches. However, their journey came to an end in the round of 16, where they faced England and lost after a penalty shootout.
This newly crowned National Team of the Year was nominated alongside Morocco and South Africa. The last time they claimed this prestigious award was in 2018.
