On Thursday, January 25, the Kano State Fire Service successfully intervened to rescue a 37-year-old man, Saifullah Rabiu, who was on the brink of committing suicide by hanging himself from a tree. Rabiu, driven by a N2 million debt incurred during the process of obtaining a foreign visa, left a suicide note detailing his desperate situation.
Saminu Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident through a media statement. The Central Control Room of the fire service received an emergency call at 10:07 am from the Ministry of Works and Housing, Kano State, reporting the incident at the State Road near Nasarawa Emir’s house. Responding promptly, fire service personnel arrived at the scene by 10:10 am.
Upon arrival, they discovered Saifullah Rabiu in critical condition, attempting to take his own life by hanging from a tree. Rabiu’s suicide note revealed the substantial debt he owed, emphasizing that he had already repaid about N500,000 of the borrowed sum. He expressed his despair, citing challenges and embarrassment from the creditor as the driving forces behind his contemplation of suicide.
Saminu Abdullahi further stated that the rescued man, Saifullah Rabiu, has been handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer (D.C.O) Zaharaddini of the Farm Centre Police Division for further investigations.
