Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has nominated Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the new deputy governor of the state. Adelami’s name has been submitted to the state House of Assembly for formal approval.

Previously serving as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly until his retirement in April 2018, Adelami’s nomination follows the vacancy in the position of the state Deputy Governor that arose on December 27, 2023. This vacancy occurred when the former deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, assumed the role of the substantive governor after the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Adelami, who hails from Owo, Ondo State, was a governorship aspirant on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform in 2022. His nomination as deputy governor is now subject to the ratification process by the state House of Assembly.
