The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the display of the Register of Voters and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a public notice signed by Mrs Abimbola Oladunjoye on behalf of the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, the commission announced that the exercise would take place at all 62 Registration Area Centres until Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The exercise will subsequently continue at INEC’s six area council offices from Friday, October 16.

The commission urged registered voters to verify their names and personal details on the voter register, confirm their designated polling units and raise objections to the inclusion of ineligible persons.

It also called on voters who registered, transferred their registration or updated their details before 2026 to collect any outstanding PVCs.

However, INEC clarified that PVCs for individuals who participated in the 2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise were not yet available. The commission said affected registrants would be notified once their cards were ready for collection.

For further enquiries, the commission provided the telephone numbers 0700 225 5634 632 and 0701 578 0499.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, had earlier announced during an engagement with journalists in Abuja that the distribution of PVCs would commence on October 9, 2026.

Amupitan also disclosed that the commission was strengthening its use of technology to prevent unauthorised individuals from using stolen, lost or compromised voter cards to interfere with the electoral process.

According to the INEC chairman, Nigeria’s voter register now contains more than 103 million registered voters, with Lagos, Kano and Kaduna states recording the highest numbers.

Voters aged between 35 and 49 constitute the largest demographic group, with 43,265,946 registrants, representing 41.83 per cent of the national voter register.

INEC’s latest exercise is aimed at giving registered voters an opportunity to verify their information, identify discrepancies and collect outstanding PVCs ahead of forthcoming electoral activities.
