The court hearing on the DNA case involving late Nigerian singer Mohbad has been adjourned to November 16, 2026, following concerns raised by a family seeking to join the proceedings over the proposed testing process.

In an update on the case, a representative of the party seeking to join the suit disclosed that a newly appointed court official had been assigned to address their concerns regarding the DNA test.

The representative expressed reservations about the facility expected to conduct the test, particularly the involvement of its director, whom he alleged had previously been connected to an earlier DNA-related request.

He also questioned whether the centre would conduct the test itself or merely collect the samples before forwarding them to another laboratory. According to him, the family wants clear information on where the samples would be taken, how they would be collected and handled, and how long it would take to transport them to the testing facility.

The representative further alleged that a previous transfer of samples took between six and eight months. He claimed that the Alaba family subsequently contacted the facility reportedly responsible for conducting the examination and was informed that it had not received samples relating to Buford or Ejero.

He added that the result eventually returned from the earlier process was inconclusive.

According to the representative, the newly appointed court official listened to their complaints and promised to investigate the issues and provide feedback. The family said it would await her response before deciding on its next course of action.

Despite the concerns, the representative stressed that the family wanted the DNA test conducted as soon as possible, while insisting that the process must be transparent, properly handled and free from doubts about its integrity.
