Everton have dismissed manager Sean Dyche following a dismal run of just one win in their last 11 matches, leaving them just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.
The Toffees are currently in 16th place and were unable to register a shot on target during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth. This marked their eighth league loss of the season, and they have failed to score in eight of their last 10 games.
Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman, both former Everton players, will take over temporarily for the FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough on Thursday evening, the club confirmed in a statement.
The statement read: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect. Coaches Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer have also left the club.”
It also noted that the search for a new manager is already underway, with further updates to follow. In the meantime, Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will handle first-team responsibilities on an interim basis.
The announcement comes less than a month after the Friedkin Group, a U.S.-based company, completed its takeover of the club. Executive Chairman Marc Watts stated that the new ownership group is “committed to leading Everton into an exciting new era both on and off the pitch.”
