“I Won’t Engage with Those Who Disrespect Elders” – PDP BoT Chair, Wabara, Responds to Wike

Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has refused to engage in a verbal altercation with the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, after the minister made disparaging remarks about him.

During a live television interview over the weekend, Wike criticized Wabara, saying, “Unfortunately, they have a man they call a former Senate President. If that man was my father, I would have disowned him. If he were related to me, I would have disowned him. He doesn’t qualify to be. No wonder President Obasanjo made a presidential broadcast under his tenure about corruption. That’s the man leading PDP BoT.”

In response, Wabara stated that, as a former Senate President and elder statesman, it would be beneath him to engage in a war of words with Wike.

“I expect someone of his caliber and status to choose his words more carefully and ensure his facts are correct. However, I don’t want to dignify Wike by joining issues with him,” Wabara said.

The former Senate President expressed disappointment with Wike’s comments, urging the minister to show more decorum, especially considering his past role as governor and his current position.

“It was disgraceful for someone who claims to be a man of honor to speak without decorum. Spouting nonsense like a leaking water pipe is not a sign of maturity,” Wabara added.

He also challenged Wike’s claims, questioning: “For a son to disown his father, there must be a significant wrong. Can Wike please tell the world what I have done to him?”

Defending his integrity, Wabara stated, “When it comes to corruption, Nigerians know who the corrupt individuals are. I can proudly say that I, Adolphus Wabara, am not corrupt! I won’t be engaging with people who have no respect for elders.”
