German club Borussia Dortmund has dismissed manager Nuri Sahin after just seven months in charge.

The former Dortmund and Real Madrid midfielder was let go following his side’s 2-1 loss to Bologna on Tuesday night, according to reports. Sky Germany and Bild stated that Sahin’s sacking was confirmed that evening, with the decision communicated to the team and coaching staff at their hotel in Bologna.

In a club statement, Dortmund’s sporting director Lars Ricken expressed regret over the decision: “We hold Nuri Sahin and his work in high regard, and we had hoped for a long-term partnership. Until the end, we were optimistic about achieving a sporting turnaround together. However, after four consecutive defeats, just one win in the last nine matches, and sitting tenth in the Bundesliga standings, we regrettably lost confidence in our ability to reach our sporting goals under the current circumstances. This decision is personally difficult for me, but it became unavoidable after the game in Bologna.”
