Lagos arrests 45 beggars including nine children

The Lagos State Government has apprehended 45 beggars, including adults and minors, during separate enforcement operations carried out in Oshodi, Agege, and CMS areas of the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, June 3.

According to the commissioner, 22 beggars, comprising adults and a few teenagers, were arrested during operations conducted in Oshodi and Agege. He added that another 23 individuals, including 14 adults and nine children, were apprehended at CMS.

Wahab said the exercise forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to clear public spaces and maintain environmental order.

“Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers. Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS,” he wrote.

The commissioner further disclosed that similar clearance operations are currently underway at Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah as part of the government’s broader environmental enforcement drive.
