Actor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has argued that supporting Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election would ultimately benefit President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election.
Speaking during an interview with Symfoni, Okonkwo maintained that a fragmented opposition would only strengthen Tinubu’s position at the polls.
“It’s either you are working for Tinubu directly or indirectly because when you divide the votes of the coalition or the opposition, you are still making Tinubu win,” he said.
Okonkwo also questioned Obi’s decision to leave the ADC shortly before the deadline for political activities related to the election cycle.
“Nobody forced Peter Obi to enter the ADC. He entered on his own, and one week before the close of the timeline, he left and gave reasons. What reason was that?” he asked.
The former Labour Party spokesperson further criticized Obi’s approach to internal party contests, arguing that anyone seeking to lead the country should be willing to participate in party primaries.
“You cannot refuse to compete in primaries and still want to be president of a challenged country,” he stated.
Okonkwo concluded with a stark warning to opposition supporters, insisting that backing Obi in 2027 would indirectly aid Tinubu’s electoral prospects.
“Let me tell you the truth, in 2027, anybody voting for Peter Obi is voting for Tinubu. Don’t say that I didn’t tell you,” he said.
