The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has ordered the immediate detention of several officers accused of extorting ₦5.2 million from youths in Ekiti State. This move follows a directive by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who on Tuesday called for a thorough investigation after a viral video surfaced showing NSCDC operatives allegedly extorting a young man traveling from Ekiti to Akure, the Ondo State capital.

In a statement issued by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, Dr. Audi strongly condemned the actions of the officers, labeling their behavior as unprofessional and a gross violation of the NSCDC Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedures. He ordered that the implicated personnel be transferred to the Corps’ national headquarters in Abuja, where they will be held in custody pending the outcome of a disciplinary inquiry initiated by the federal government.

Reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to accountability and transparency, Dr. Audi assured the public that any officer found guilty will face appropriate sanctions in line with the Public Service Rules. He emphasized that corruption and misconduct will not be tolerated within the NSCDC, warning that individuals will be held accountable for their actions.

Dr. Audi also called on the public not to lose trust in the Corps. He encouraged citizens to continue reporting misconduct without fear of harassment or extortion and reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to upholding the rights and dignity of all Nigerians. He pledged that no personnel found culpable will be shielded from justice.
