Former Senator Marafa Quits APC, Cites Betrayal and Internal Disunity

Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Marafa, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of betrayal and worsening internal divisions.

Speaking to his supporters, Marafa said the decision followed extensive consultations, adding that the APC had failed its members in Zamfara State and across the country.

“I want to inform my supporters in Zamfara, the North, and across Nigeria that after two days of consultations, we have concluded that the APC has betrayed and cheated us—not just in Zamfara, but nationwide,” he stated.

Marafa specifically blamed the party’s caretaker leadership under Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for failing to address internal crises. He claimed the APC in Zamfara has been split into rival factions, with no serious effort at reconciliation.

“In Zamfara, the betrayal is most evident. Since Buni took over from former Governor Matawalle, the party has not held a single meeting. The APC remains divided—one side loyal to Buni, the other to Matawalle. After two years and six months, there’s still no resolution,” he said.

A prominent figure within the APC, Marafa has been a vocal critic of the party’s internal disputes. His exit adds to a growing wave of dissatisfaction among party members in Zamfara State.
