The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, following weeks of suspension for essential maintenance and safety checks.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, explained that the temporary suspension allowed the corporation to carry out critical repairs, system checks, and maintenance on the tracks and rolling stock to enhance passenger safety, reliability, and comfort.
“The temporary suspension was necessary to conduct crucial repairs and system maintenance on the track and rolling stock to ensure passengers’ comfort, reliability, and safety,” the statement read.
The NRC also announced that online bookings will reopen by 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, ahead of the service resumption. Passengers can make reservations via the official portal, https://nrc-fane.ng, or at designated stations.
When operations restart, trains will run with seven coaches—six standard-class and one business-class coach. A new timetable, featuring temporary speed restrictions (TSR) for safe monitoring, will also be released on Monday.
Unyimadu expressed the corporation’s apologies for the inconvenience caused during the suspension period and appreciated passengers’ patience and understanding.
NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s dedication to providing safe, efficient, and dependable rail services on the Warri–Itakpe corridor, adding that the recent improvements will enhance the overall travel experience.
The Warri–Itakpe rail line, one of Nigeria’s key intercity routes, links Delta, Edo, and Kogi States, serving as a major transport artery for passengers and goods between the South-South and North-Central regions.
