Burkina Faso have sacked head coach Brama Traore along with his entire technical crew following the team’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations by arch-rivals Ivory Coast.
Burkina Faso Football Federation president Oumarou Sawadogo announced the decision on Wednesday, January 14, citing performances at the tournament that fell short of expectations.
“The results were well below what was expected of our national team at the continental competition,” Sawadogo said, describing the outcome as a “bitter disappointment.” He added that the federation’s target had been at least a semi-final finish. Burkina Faso have also failed to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The Stallions were thrashed 3–0 by defending champions Ivory Coast in Marrakesh on Monday. Manchester United winger Amad Diallo opened the scoring and set up Yan Diomande for the second goal before halftime, while substitute Bazoumana Toure sealed the victory late on.
Earlier in the tournament, Burkina Faso defeated Sudan and Equatorial Guinea in the group stage but suffered a loss to Algeria.
Traore, 63, took charge in March 2024 after replacing French coach Hubert Velud, who was dismissed following a round-of-16 exit at the previous AFCON.
