Iran announces alternative routes in Hormuz strait

Iran has outlined alternative routes for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, warning of potential sea mine risks in the main shipping lane.

The advisory, issued by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, urges vessels to follow designated entry and exit paths to improve safety and reduce the danger of striking mines.

The move follows Tehran’s agreement to temporarily reopen the strait under a two-week ceasefire with the United States, reached just ahead of a deadline set by Donald Trump for possible military action.

Iran had largely limited access to the waterway since early March, disrupting global shipping flows and pushing up energy prices.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most vital trade corridors, with roughly a fifth of global oil supply passing through it, meaning any disruption or rerouting carries major implications for international markets.
