The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two security guards in connection with the murder of a traveler identified as Promise in Ibafo.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, April 13, 2026, noting that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects still at large.
According to the police, the suspects—Isikilu Dauda, 55, and Rasaki Abbas—allegedly attacked the victim with machetes after he arrived in the area on Thursday, April 10.
Acting on a tip-off from a concerned resident, detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters quickly responded, rescued the victim, and rushed him to the hospital. While being transported, the victim reportedly identified himself and stated that he had been attacked by security guards shortly after arriving the previous night. He was later confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Following the incident, the body was documented and deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary findings revealed a trail of blood leading directly to one of the suspects, resulting in his arrest, while further efforts led to the capture of the second suspect. Police say investigations are ongoing to track down other accomplices.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured that all those involved would face justice. He also warned against unlawful violence, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance stance on extrajudicial actions, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
