The Nigerian military has said that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji will not be able to evade justice indefinitely, vowing that ongoing operations will ultimately lead to his capture.

This position was stated by Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a monthly briefing on the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria nationwide.

Onoja explained that intelligence-led operations are increasingly closing in on Turji and other criminal elements. While the bandit leader may continue to attempt to avoid arrest, he stressed that Turji cannot remain beyond the reach of security forces forever.

He reaffirmed the military’s determination to ensure that Turji is apprehended and held accountable for his actions.

The spokesman also noted that there is no longer any safe haven for the wanted kingpin, as security agencies intensify surveillance and coordinated offensives in affected regions.

Addressing concerns about the ongoing closed-door trial of alleged coup plotters, Onoja urged patience from the public and the media. He said details of the court martial cannot yet be disclosed due to national security considerations but assured that more information will be released at the appropriate time.

“The issue of the court martial is not within my purview to comment on. In the interest of national security, I urge patience. In due course, all the information you require will be made available,” he said.

On international support, Onoja commended the contribution of the United States military to Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts, describing it as valuable. He clarified that US forces are not engaged in direct combat operations in Nigeria but provide training, intelligence, and strategic advisory support.

“As you are well aware, the United States military is primarily here to provide training and intelligence support. They do not have boots on the ground, but their support has been significant,” he added.
