A woman identified as Safiya Usaini has been arraigned before a Kano Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing and beheading her co-wife, Safiya Saleh, after accusing her of spying on her while she was in the bathroom.
Usaini was brought before the court, presided over by Magistrate Auwal Yusuf, following the completion of a police investigation into the alleged incident.
Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Muhammad Aliyu Umar, presented the suspect before the court and read the charge of culpable homicide to her.
However, the court declined to hear the case, ruling that it lacked jurisdiction to handle a murder charge.
The prosecutor subsequently requested an adjournment to allow the prosecution to obtain legal advice from the government on the appropriate next step.
The court granted the request, adjourned the matter until September 30, 2026, for further mention, and ordered that the accused be remanded in a correctional centre.
Usaini is alleged to have attacked and beheaded her co-wife with a machete in Loko, Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the allegations, the suspect became angry after accusing her co-wife of spying on her while she was using the bathroom.
