The Kano State Government has earmarked N1.5 billion for its forthcoming mass wedding programme, which is expected to benefit 3,000 couples across the state.

The Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, disclosed this on Monday, June 15, 2026, while briefing journalists on preparations for the event.

According to Daurawa, the allocated funds will cover various aspects of the programme, including the purchase of furniture, food items, dowries, and clothing materials for the couples. He added that each bride will also receive a N100,000 start-up grant as part of the initiative.

“The Kano State Government will spend N1.5 billion on the entire mass wedding programme, which will soon be conducted in the state,” he said.

Daurawa further revealed that the Hisbah Board, working alongside the State Ministry of Health, has commenced mandatory medical screening for prospective participants to determine their health status.

He explained that the tests include screening for hepatitis, HIV, pregnancy, genotype compatibility, and other sexually transmitted infections.

The Hisbah chief noted that more than 5,000 people applied for the programme, but only 3,000 couples will be selected after the completion of the screening exercise.

He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for introducing the initiative, adding that the governor will announce the official date for the mass wedding ceremony.
