Two Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison after a Kuwaiti court upheld their convictions for an armed robbery at a currency exchange shop.
The suspects were arrested by the Kuwait General Department of Criminal Investigation in Ahmadi Governorate following the robbery of a currency exchange office in Mahboula in January 2025.
The Court of Appeal, on Monday, July 20, 2026, upheld the prison terms imposed on the defendants in connection with the robbery. The ruling was delivered by the Second Circuit of the Court of Appeal, presided over by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid, with Counselors Mutaib Al-Aradhi and Saud Al-Sane as members of the panel.
According to the prosecution, the first four defendants conspired to rob the exchange shop, with the second defendant allegedly brandishing a fake firearm while facilitating the theft carried out by the third and fourth defendants with the assistance of the first defendant.
The fifth defendant was accused of conspiring with the group, helping to conceal the stolen money, and providing support using funds obtained from the robbery.
The Criminal Court had earlier sentenced the first defendant in person and the fifth defendant in person, while the remaining defendants were convicted in absentia. The first four defendants each received seven years and six months in prison after the court amended the charges, while the fifth defendant was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
The Court of Appeal affirmed the lower court’s decision, according to a report published by Al Rai newspaper.
