The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ikoyi, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, arraigned a Sierra Leonean, Favour Foday Kamara, before Justice O. A. Okunuga of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja over an alleged $190,324 fraud.
The case followed a petition by Henrietta Vandi, a 70-year-old Sierra Leonean based in the United States, who alleged that she met the defendant during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020.
According to the petitioner, Kamara subsequently encouraged her to invest in Nigeria during their meetings.
Investigations by the EFCC allegedly revealed that Vandi sent money through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash transfers into the defendant’s Access Bank account to finance the purchase and renovation of a property at 20/30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.
However, further investigations allegedly showed that the property was acquired in Kamara’s name, and that he resides there and collects rent from tenants.
Following the conclusion of its investigation, the EFCC arraigned Kamara on a two-count charge bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion of $190,324.
One of the counts reads: “That you, Favour Foday Kamara, between August 2021 and February 2025, at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted to your use the sum of $190,324.00 USD (One Hundred and Ninety Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty-four United States Dollars), property of one Mrs. Henrietta Vandi, thereby committing an offence of stealing, contrary to Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
Kamara pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility.
Justice Okunuga subsequently adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, and ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
