The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued a 12-year-old girl, Mercy Kefas, who was reported missing, and arrested a 20-year-old woman suspected of abducting her.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
According to the police, the girl’s mother, Mrs. Mary Felix, reported her missing at the Guyuk Divisional Headquarters on September 18.
The child was later sighted in the company of an unidentified woman heading towards the Balanga/Talasse axis.
Following the report, the police launched a coordinated search operation and shared information with neighbouring communities and relevant formations.
The operation led to the rescue of the girl and the arrest of the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jamila Yusuf of Lafiya Village, Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, around the Talasse border area.
The police said the suspect remains in custody, while the rescued girl has been reunited with her family.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the officers involved for their prompt response and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases involving missing children or suspicious movements to the nearest police formation.
