The Super Eagles of Nigeria have amassed an impressive $2.5 million in prize money after advancing to the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

This increase in prize money was announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) just a day before the tournament commenced. It’s important to note that this prize money is separate from the bonuses and allowances provided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to the players.

The overall winner of the AFCON stands to gain $7 million, while the runners-up will receive $4 million. Quarterfinalists will each receive $1.3 million, and teams that made it to the Round of 16 will get $800,000. CAF disburses this money to the Nigeria Football Federation, which then distributes it among the players and staff.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to take on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-final match at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, on Wednesday.
