Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the announcement on Friday, June 6, during a press briefing at the Government House in Uyo. According to Eno, the decision came after “three months of extensive consultations” with political stakeholders across the state.

While expressing gratitude to the PDP for its support since the start of his administration, Eno said it was time to take what he called a “progressive step” forward.

“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” he stated.

He added that the move was driven by a desire to align Akwa Ibom with the federal government, and out of admiration for President Bola Tinubu and a commitment to support Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“We are not joining the APC from a place of weakness, but from a position of strength and purpose. This is a strategic decision to align our state with the center,” Eno said.

He reassured citizens that his administration would continue to serve all residents fairly, regardless of political affiliation.

The event was attended by several high-profile APC leaders, including the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun; Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru; Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, among others.
