Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that all his children supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, in the 2023 presidential election.
Wike made the disclosure on Monday during an interview on TVC, explaining that his children’s support for Obi was influenced by the controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket at the time.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the political situation has since changed, claiming that the controversy surrounding the same-faith ticket no longer has the same impact ahead of the 2027 election.
“In 2023, there was a problem with the Muslim-Muslim ticket. There was this campaign about Christianity.
“All my children supported Peter Obi. But now, they are saying that they never knew this man, Peter Obi, was like this.
“There are a lot of people who were carried away, but that is no longer there now. Tinubu has been able to kill the Muslim-Muslim ticket problem,” Wike said.
Wike also said the factors he believes contributed to Obi’s support in the 2023 election had changed ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
He further dismissed Obi’s prospects in the 2027 election, asserting that the former Anambra State governor, who is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), would not win the election.
