Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Wednesday, July 23, confirmed the arrest of suspects involved in the abduction of Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro of the Bayelsa State High Court.

Justice Omukoro was kidnapped in Yenagoa on June 21, 2025, and held captive for 12 days before being rescued through a coordinated operation by security agencies.

Governor Diri made the disclosure during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Yenagoa. He revealed that all suspects involved in the crime had been apprehended, except for the gang leader who remains at large.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the governor reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on crime, warning criminal elements to steer clear of Bayelsa. He highlighted recent improvements in the state’s security infrastructure, including the deployment of drones and CCTV cameras across the capital.

“We have greatly enhanced our crime-fighting capacity with technology. In the recent kidnap case of a serving judge, all suspects were arrested except one who is still on the run,” Diri said.

Governor Diri also used the occasion to honour Superintendent of Police Sentome Obi, who rejected a $17,000 bribe from a suspect involved in organ trafficking. Praising SP Obi for his integrity and courage, the governor described him as a role model in a time when the police force is battling image issues.

In recognition of his exemplary service, the governor awarded SP Obi a three-bedroom apartment and a car, and recommended him to the Inspector General of Police for promotion.

“SP Obi has not only made Bayelsa proud but has also enhanced the image of the Nigerian Police. I urge other officers to follow his shining example,” Diri added.
