Army arrests suspected cultist, seizes axe, cutlass, and firearm in Delta

The HQ 63 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), has arrested a suspected cultist identified as Igbe Lucky Chika.

Ag Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 63 Brigade, Captain [Name], disclosed in a statement that the 26-year-old suspect was apprehended by troops in Ezionun community, Abraka, on July 19, 2025.

Recovered items from the suspect include a locally made firearm, an axe, a cutlass, two mobile phones, and a Toyota Camry with registration number Delta ASB 41 BE.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is affiliated with a cult group and will be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commander of 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, commended the troops for their professionalism and diligence during the operation. He also urged the public to continue supporting the military’s efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
