Bandit Assault in Sokoto Results in Seven Deaths and Numerous Abductions

At least seven individuals lost their lives in a suspected bandit attack on two communities in Goronyo and Wurno Local Government Areas of Sokoto State. The incident unfolded in Kojiyo community in Goronyo LGA and Gwamatase village in Wurno LGA, both situated in the Eastern senatorial district of the state, occurring between Friday and Saturday, December 2, 2023.

The State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufai, verified that three people were killed in the Wurno attack, with one person sustaining injuries. However, confirmation was not provided for the attack in Kojiwo ward in Goronyo local government area, where it was reported that five individuals were allegedly killed, and numerous others were abducted by unidentified armed individuals believed to be bandits.

A local resident, speaking anonymously to the Nigerian Tribune, disclosed that the incident transpired on Saturday evening. Apart from the reported fatalities, many residents were also taken captive during the unfortunate attack. The resident stated, “They attacked the village on Saturday evening, where they killed five residents of the area instantly. They also abducted many people in the village, and as of now, we have not ascertained the number of persons abducted.”

The victims were laid to rest on Sunday morning.
