Suspected bandits have kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bagudo.
According to the spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Nafi Abubakar, the assailants invaded the lawmaker’s hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area on Friday, October 31, around 8:25 p.m., shortly after he had observed the Isha’i prayers and was returning home.
Abubakar disclosed that a joint security team has been mobilized to rescue the abducted lawmaker.
“A joint team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes has been deployed to the area for his rescue. The combined forces are currently combing suspected bandits’ routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the lawmaker unhurt and apprehend those responsible for the attack,” the statement read.
The police statement further noted that the Commissioner of Police has reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, describing the abduction as “a dastardly act that will not go unpunished.”
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and to provide credible information that could assist security operatives in the ongoing rescue operation.
