Bandits have killed 27-year-old Piti Ezekiel and abducted five others in Akansan Garmadi, Rumaya Community, Kwassam ward in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Danbaba Katuka, National Secretary of the Kauru Local Government Area CDAs Forum, shared the details in a phone interview with The Punch on Friday, January 24, 2025. The abducted victims were identified as Afiniki Baban Gida (46), Afiniki Timothy (41), Talatu Timothy (40), Manayi Abu (36), and Richard Dalhatu (42). Additionally, 48-year-old Mr. Timothy Daure, a traditional title holder in Kumana Chiefdom, survived the attack but sustained gunshot wounds.

According to Katuka, the bandits attacked the village at around 10:30 pm on Thursday, taking up strategic positions and firing sporadically. Piti Ezekiel was killed in the attack, and five others were abducted.

“This is the first time our community has been attacked, and it has caused a nightmare for our people. The government must act quickly before these terrorists overrun all the Kauru communities,” Katuka said.

He further expressed frustration, noting that attacks have been ongoing across various communities, with little action from the government to curb the activities of the criminals.

“There is a need for strong military operations to flush out these bandits from their camps,” he added.

Many residents of Kauru communities have fled their homes due to the constant attacks, leaving their farms abandoned for fear of being kidnapped or killed.

“Communities are ready to provide all necessary support to address the security challenges in Kauru,” Katuka concluded.
