The Bayelsa State Police Command has apprehended one of the perpetrators involved in the killing of the late SP Bako Angbashim, the former Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division in Rivers State.

According to a statement released on November 18 by CSP Buswat Asinim, the command’s spokesperson, the arrested suspect, identified as Onyekachi Ikowa (43), serves as the second in command to ‘TuBaba’ of the notorious Icelander cult group. The arrest was made based on credible intelligence suggesting that Ikowa was hiding in Yenagoa after actively participating in the heinous murder of SP Bako Angbashim in September 2023.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police for the Bayelsa State Command, CP Francis Iduh, has urged police operatives to track down any accomplices of the arrested suspect who may be hiding in Bayelsa. He emphasized that the Bayelsa Command, under his leadership, will not provide a safe haven for criminals.

Earlier reports by LIB had disclosed that suspected cultists shot and killed SP Bako Angbashim on September 8. The deceased police officer and his team were engaged in a fierce gun battle with a notorious cult leader known as ‘TuBaba.’ Unfortunately, they ran out of ammunition, forcing the police to retreat. During the retreat, the DPO, who had sustained bullet wounds, was captured by the cultists. A disturbing video, believed to be released by the cultists, showed the dismembered remains of Mr. Bako while a voice mocked him.
