A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has cautioned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, that Nigerians will not tolerate excuses of system glitches in the 2027 general elections.
George issued the warning on Monday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, as preparations for the next general elections begin.
The elder statesman urged the new INEC chairman to avoid what he described as the mistakes of the commission’s leadership during the 2023 elections, which were plagued by complaints of technical failures. Recalling the last general election, George noted that despite the procurement of electoral technologies, the exercise was later attributed to system malfunctions.
According to him, such explanations would no longer be acceptable to Nigerians.
“Remember the last election, when the necessary tools were provided. What did we hear afterwards? They said there was a glitch,” he said. “So let’s go back to basics. Mr. Amupitan, there should be no glitch in this system.”
