Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season, while Manchester City striker Bunny Shaw claimed the women’s award for the second time.
Fernandes enjoyed an outstanding campaign, breaking the all-time Premier League assist record after registering 21 assists and surpassing the previous marks held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The 31-year-old Portugal international also scored nine goals as Manchester United recovered from a difficult start to finish third in the Premier League under Michael Carrick and secure a return to the Champions League.
Fernandes said winning the award, which is voted for by fellow professionals, was a particularly proud moment.
“It is obviously a very proud moment. They are the ones you go on the pitch against and it’s probably not easy to vote for someone you play against, so it is a very good moment,” he said.
Fernandes becomes Manchester United’s first PFA Players’ Player of the Year winner since Wayne Rooney in the 2009/10 season. The award also adds to the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honour he received in May.
Meanwhile, Manchester City forward Bunny Shaw was named the PFA Women’s Player of the Year for the second time.
The 29-year-old previously won the award in 2023/24 and retained it after scoring 21 goals during the season, securing her third consecutive Women’s Super League Golden Boot and helping Manchester City win the league title for the first time in her career.
