Customs officer dies in car crash

A 54-year-old Customs officer, Etteng Ise, has died in a road accident along the Ikom-Calabar Highway in Cross River State.

The fatal crash occurred around 2:56 p.m. on Monday, September 7, near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

The Cross River State Police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Calabar on Monday.

According to him, Ise, who was stationed at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area, lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole.

The vehicle reportedly veered off the highway into the bush before crashing into a tree.

The victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Ikom for medical attention but was later pronounced dead.

Eitokpah added that Ise’s remains had been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
