Diddy’s Lawyers Set to Argue for Acquittal

Sean “Diddy” Combs is back in court today as his legal team seeks to overturn his conviction on two federal counts under the Mann Act.

Diddy’s attorneys will present their arguments before Judge Arun Subramanian, urging him to either acquit the music mogul or grant a new trial. Federal prosecutors, however, strongly oppose both requests.

The Mann Act, a federal law enacted over a century ago, prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. It has historically been used to prosecute sex trafficking and related offenses.

Diddy’s defense team contends that his conviction resulted from a misapplication of the law. They argue that he neither profited from prostitution nor personally arranged the interstate transportation of sex workers. Instead, they portray his involvement as largely voyeuristic, centered around consensual sexual encounters involving his ex-girlfriends and male escorts. The attorneys acknowledge that Diddy sometimes recorded these encounters but maintain that he did not organize them as part of any sex trafficking operation.

Federal prosecutors vehemently dispute this portrayal. They argue that the evidence presented at trial clearly demonstrated Diddy’s central role in orchestrating what they termed his infamous “freak-offs.” According to prosecutors, Diddy was not a mere observer but the mastermind, directing the sexual activities and personally engaging by masturbating during these encounters.

Prosecutors also rejected the defense’s claim that Diddy’s actions were comparable to those of a porn producer protected under the First Amendment. They emphasized that many of the sexual encounters were not filmed, and when recordings were made, they were often without participants’ prior knowledge or consent. This, prosecutors argue, negates any free expression defense and highlights the exploitative nature of the acts.

This case has been one of the most closely followed celebrity legal battles of the year, given Diddy’s prominence and the serious nature of the charges. Both sides are expected to deliver compelling arguments before Judge Subramanian.

Diddy is scheduled for sentencing on October 3, but today’s hearing represents a crucial attempt by his legal team to overturn the conviction. The outcome could determine whether he faces a lengthy prison term or a new chance to challenge the charges in court.
